FAQ

How do I order? / What’s the order process?

When you click the “buy now” button, you are directed to www.lulu.com to order the hard copy book. You will then receive two emails from Lulu: a “Thank You” email and a “Receipt” email. To receive the electronic PDF copy and Companion ReFill, forward a copy of your Lulu receipt to webmaster@reason101.net. Once I receive your receipt, I will send you the electronic PDF, and ReFill file (depending on the order option you chose). The PDF and ReFill are sent to you in two separate emails, and are sent to the same email you used to forward me the receipt. This is a manual process, so please allow up to 24 hours for download file delivery.

This process must be performed because Lulu does not provide customer information to publishers. Without this information, there is no way for me to track your order, and no way for me to know where to forward the electronic files. The receipt is only used to confirm you have placed an order, and to fulfill the electronic portion of your order. This information will not be shared with any other third parties.

Are the tutorials provided on your Reason101 website found in the book?

While many of the tutorials found on my website are found in the book, most of them have been updated and expanded. I took a year off to organize and update them. In addition, there are numerous tutorials in the book that are not found on the website. Finally, the first half of the book where all the devices are outlined are exclusive to the book, and not found on the website.

  1. After checking it seems to be my problem… So i contact paypal…

If they don’t reply i may take the lulu one (at least i can use credit card there) 😉

    1. Deisss,
You should be able to use a credit card through paypal as well, even for the PDF-only copy. But if paypal is giving you problems, then contacting them is the best way to get your problem settled. Let me know if I can help you in any way or answer any questions you might have. And thank you for your support and feedback!

  2. You must have known how important this book was to guys like me because there’s a frustration with the lack of proper and complete resources covering the things you have covered.

This book is going to help bring back the fun and take away the fear factor when using Reason 7 and it’s numorous Rack Exstentions.

Thanks for sharing you’re knowledge and keeping us in the game.

    1. Michael,
You’re most welcome. I am trying to fill up a gap that needed filling in terms of written documentation for the program. The operator manual is a wonderful resource, but it’s not as comprehensive and concise as I would like, and it’s impossible to print at over 1,000 pages. You would be paying a very hefty price tag to have it printed.

I’m glad you appreciate the idea behind this, and I hope you learn a lot from the book, while having a lot of fun as well.

PS: I sent you an email in response to your question.

      All my best,
      Rob

  3. what “refills” come with the books? I think this book is an awesome resource. Please clarify the refills that you’re providing.

    thanks

    1. The ReFill (which comes only with the coil-bound options – both color and Black & White) is a ReFill with 250 patches. About half of those patches complement the tutorials in the book. In other words, most of the patches that the tutorials are creating can be found in the ReFill so you don’t have to go through the process of creating them from the ground up. The other half of the patches go beyond the book and provide alternate routing ideas, and sound designs that aren’t found in the book at all. The ReFill is broken down into these two sections. And the patches that complement the tutorials are logically named, so that if you are reading about tutorial #23, for example, you can go into the ReFill, and navigate to all patches starting with “23” in the patch name.

  4. Hi Robert,

I am trying to see which Refill is the one included with highest level purchase, and also whether shipping (international) is included in the total price.

    Thank you!

    1. Ecoholic,
Glad you found the answer to your ReFill question. As for the shipping, it is not included in the stated price. The shipping is calculated by http://www.lulu.com when you place the order, and is based on your preferred shipping method and geographic location.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
      All my best,
      Rob

      1. I’ve decided to re-instate the PDF-only option for the book, as some international customers were getting hit with very high shipping costs from Lulu.com. I hope this provides a reasonable compromise for all. Cheers!

  5. Hello, I’m really interested in this book and it’s better for me to buy it on ebay (I can see the prise for the shipping, use paypal – more comfortable). Is it possible?

    1. @rootrock13, No, this is not possible. The hard copy book can only be purchased through http://www.lulu.com – However, you can use your paypal account to purchase directly through them. They do provide that option. It’s similar to purchasing through eBay via Paypal. And lulu is a very well-known and reputable company. You will also have the opportunity to see the shipping calculation BEFORE you purchase.

If it makes you feel more comfortable, you can purchase the PDF-only copy of the book. That option goes through paypal directly, without having to deal with any other third parties. You also avoid the shipping charges altogether with this option.

Hope that answers your question. Let me know if you have any other questions.
      All my best,
      Rob

    1. Spanky,
It’s actually $39.99 – $129.99, which is a fair price for learning about all the core Reason devices, 8 Rack Extensions, and 101 unique and creative tutorials. There are a wide variety of options. I’m sorry that you don’t see that as fair. But you’re tapping into 10 years of my Reason experience, and 1 year of my hard work putting it all together in a concise format; getting much more than what you get in the user manual and well beyond. If you can afford the cost of a single Rack Extension, you can purchase a copy of the book and get access to it all, no matter what option you choose.

      All my best,
      Rob

  6. Color PDF is a “little” steep my man.. There’s no “hidden cost” or manufacturing for that versus the B&W.. U should prob only sell the color pdf.. I’d buy that for 40 bucks (even though for an ebook, it is still a little steep).. But I (and the PHead community) do appreciate your work and time. I think that if you made this possible, you would not only get a lot more people interested in buying, but you would also be recruiting a free sales and marketing force for this and future products. All the best my man

    1. Bryan,
Thanks for responding. I appreciate your position, and I respect your opinion. As for my opinion, you’re getting a $20 break on the price going from the color book option to the color PDF option. And if that’s “too steep,” then there are lower cost black & white options available. Manufacturing is only one contributing aspect to any product cost. There’s the work and effort that went into it. The creativity you get out of it. And understanding that there is literally nothing else in the market like it. If you believe the product is worth the cost, you will purchase it. If you don’t, you won’t. To me, it is most definitely worth the cost, otherwise I wouldn’t have put my name on it. I hope you see the value in it as well.

All the best to you as well my man.

  7. Hi, my name is Phil does this book explain how to use knobs and the ssl mixers and how to create sounds, etc… And does each book come with different guides or are they all the same the differemce is ink? Thank you. Hope to hear from you soon.

    1. Phil,
All book options contain the exact same information. The book is exactly the same, no matter what option you purchase. The difference is whether you want to buy a black & white or color book, and premium options come with coil-binding for the book, and an additional ReFill with 250+ patches that follow along with the book, and provide additional routing ideas and creative patches that are meant to inspire you to work your own magic in Reason.

All the devices that are covered in the book are thoroughly explained front to back. All the knobs, sliders, buttons, audio routings, and CV routings. There’s a few pages that cover some SSL information, like how to duck a signal or how to compress a signal (via the Mix Channel device), and the new Spectrum Analyzer is covered. But the SSL itself is part of the big Mixer, and the Big Mixer is NOT covered in this book. This is a book about the Rack in Reason, not the Mixer.

I hope that answers your questions. Let me know if you have any other questions. And take a look at the sample PDFs. They give you a good idea of how things are explained in the book.

      All my best,
      Rob

  8. I’m interested in learning my craft and advancing my skills in Reason. Currently, I’m using Recycle and Reason 5 and I’ve fell into the habit of making rough drafts and not quality work I wish to have. Will this help learn the basis of Reason before I jump up to the upgrade?

    1. Mr.Goonbot,
This will teach you everything that is available to you within the Reason Rack for version 7. As well as 8 additional RE devices that are on offer. You’ll learn all the devices you can use in the core Reason 7 installation, front to back, and then you get 101 detailed tutorials on what you can do with those devices when you start to combine them. This half of the book is the “practical use” side. Is there something more specific you want to know?

  9. Hi,

Im a reason user from South-Africa, i would really love to read this book but even the black and white pdf would be really expensive with the USD/ZAR conversion. Will there maybe be some kind of special on this?

Looks like a really great book with alot of information but it just feels like its really expensive for a black and white pdf?

    Thanks
    Tiaan

    1. Tiaan,
I appreciate your question, and I appreciate your support, however, I can’t reduce the prices any lower than they are set. When you consider the cost of the book is roughly the same as a Rack Extension, give or take, I think you are receiving a very good value for what you are getting.

      All my best,
      Rob

  10. Hi Rob,

I bought “Reason101 Visual Guide to the Reason Rack” ebook and just wanted to let you know so far its a good book. I picked up a missing word on page 24 in the second paragraph, third sentence where it says: “I don’t exactly how many”, i think this should read: “I don’t exactly know how many”. Just a small mistake that i picked up.

    All the best
    Tiaan

    1. Thanks Tiaan. Definitely a typo there. And yes, it should be “know” which is the missing word. I appreciate you letting me know. And I’m glad you are finding the book useful for learning Reason. All my best. Rob

  11. Hey my man, this is Bryan again. I was finally able to check out your book.. I must say it’s pretty amazing!! And though it’s more expensive than your average pdf, IT IS def worth every penny my man! I can definitely appreciate the work and thought put into this book. Hope things are going well for you!

    1. Thanks Bryan,
I really appreciate that. It was a major labor of love, and my hope was that it fit a missing niche market for people that want a complete Reason Rack resource in print. So I hope you get a lot out of it. 🙂 Things are good with me. Thanks for asking. Let me know if you have any questions or need help with any parts of the book. Cheers!
